HAGERSTOWN, MD – Staff and leadership at Brook Lane Inc. received a visit from Congressman David Trone on Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Congressman Trone sat down with senior leaders to discuss some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities in mental and behavioral health care today. The meeting was followed by a tour of the 115-acre main campus.
Congressman Trone has been representing all or part of Allegany, Frederick, Garrett, Montgomery and Washington Counties since 2018 when he was elected to serve Maryland’s Sixth Congressional District. A crusader, fighting to shine a light and make progress on tackling important issues like the opioid epidemic, the Congressman also is a proponent of breaking down the stigma associated with seeking help for mental health disease and addiction.
“I ran for Congress to fight for a brighter future for Marylanders. Today, we continue to move the needle on mental health treatment, and health care centers like Brook Lane are a key player in this fight. They do incredible work in providing accessible treatment and recovery services, especially in rural areas where resources are too often out of reach. Working together on the local, state, and federal levels, we can achieve true equity between mental and physical health, and get folks struggling the help they need,” said Congressman Trone.
The Congressman’s tour included the 58-bed psychiatric hospital, outpatient therapy offices, including the new Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) suite and the Laurel Hall Special Education School.
“We were thrilled to be able to show Congressman Trone our beautiful main campus, discuss opportunities to improve our mental health system and share the unique challenges that an organization like Brook Lane faces,” said Jeffery D. O’Neal, Brook Lane’s Chief Executive Officer. “He is a true champion of those afflicted with mental health and substance use issues and has done much to support our community.”
