InSTEP (Substance Use Treatment Program)

Brook Lane recognizes that addiction is a brain disorder and not a moral issue. InSTEP is Brook Lane’s Integrated Substance Use Treatment Program held five days a week at our North Village Outpatient location in Hagerstown. The program consists of two levels of care for adults: Level 1 Outpatient Program and Level 2.1 Intensive Outpatient Program. All clients will complete a special assessment to determine which level of care they should be in.

Level 1 Outpatient Program

This program is appropriate for individuals who show signs of a substance use disorder or for those who have developed significant problems in areas of their lives due to substance use. Clients receive specialized education and person-centered treatment. Individuals who have co-occurring disorders, but whose mental health symptoms are stable and managed, can be considered for this outpatient program. Groups focus on cravings management, life skills, and relapse prevention. The 60-minute sessions are offered throughout the day and, for convenience, some evenings.

Level 2.1 Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

This program consists of group therapy designed for those with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. Following an integrated care-recovery approach, individuals will learn how to manage mental health and substance use disorder symptoms. Groups focus on the development of coping and life skills, relapse prevention and mental health management. Clients will learn how substances impact the brain, body and behavior through discussions, lectures, videos and other materials. The three-hour sessions are held from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Once the first phase of treatment is completed, clients will step-down to our Level 1 Program.

Our Staff

InSTEP therapists all have earned master’s degrees and are licensed mental health professionals. Many are dually trained in addiction and mental health. Therapy sessions are designed to build upon the strengths of the client to help them work through guilt and shame, empowering them to take control of their own recovery. We meet our clients wherever they are in their journey and help them discover that recovery is a process for life.
